Carcassonne Airport (CCF) is located only 4km from the fortified old town. The airport operates flights to a number of European cities such as London, Liverpool, Nottingham, Charleroi and Dublin. There are regular bus shuttle services timed according to flight arrivals and departures. The cost for a one-way ticket is €5. Given its proximity to the center of the town, taxis are a relatively inexpensive option also.
The old town of Carcassonne is car-free and the medieval streets are a delight to explore by foot. The Ville Base part of the town is also compact and again best explored by foot. For exploring the wider Carcassonne area, it is advisable to rent a car. Comprehensive car rental options are available at the airport with companies such as Hertz, Avis and Europcar.
